KITES

An unconditional love you can’t outrun; there are no demands, there are no boundaries, there is no stop and you fly high in the blue sky. Such is the love story displayed in the movie “KITES” featuring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori as their lead going by the name Jai Singhania and Natasha or Linda respectively. The script has all the mixed elements- lovers, villains, friends, cities, cars, fights, broken hearts, money, dreadful similar pasts of lovebirds, and above all foreign language to outcast the ways of falling in love.

The plot has a very common love story, however, it is still beautiful the way it has been played and scripted down. The movie follows the layout of flashback and present moments meeting together at the end. Jai Singhania (Hrithik Roshan) is a dance teacher. He also helps his friend “Robin” in his business where Jai marries immigrant women to get them green cards in return of some money. His ambition is to earn loads of money in his life which he prioritizes above everything. One of the students in his dance class “Gina” played by Kangana Ranaut falls for him. She is the daughter of biggest casino owner, so Jai decides to marry her. He meets Gina’s brother Tony who is getting married to Mexican women “Natasha” who happen to be one of the immigrant women Jai married before named as “Linda”. A night before their marriage, Jai and Natasha spend a friendly night which makes them fall for each other. Tony visits them in the middle of the night and is knocked down between the scuffle. They run to Mexico and get married. With the help of Robin, they manage to get their passports, however, Tony reaches the site and Jai gets shot during the run. Natasha drives Jai to a safer place near railway station and hides him in a train. Natasha after getting trapped in between Tony’s men decides to end her life. Jai survives and comes to know about Natasha through one of Tony’s men- “Jamaal”. He then kills Tony and his men as a revenge, but is shot by Gina. Jai then goes to the place where Natasha ended her life; grieving and smiling, he jumps off to his end. They are forever united through death.

With songs like “Zindagi Do Pal Ki” and “Dil Kyun Ye Mera”, Kites managed to keep the romantic essence alive but dialogues were not so in sync with the same. As majority part of this bollywood movie is in either English or Spanish; it becomes a barrier to those who understand only Hindi. The actors very well lived upto the expectations to convey the feeling of the script and, in no doubt, did an amazing job. Love stories usually become one time watch because of their content and same is applicable for Kites as it’s easy to take every bit of it with you all at once.
